Our story

1960 — UFSC Establishment

The Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) was founded and became one of Brazil’s major centers for teaching and research.

1976 — CFS Department Creation

The Department of Physiological Sciences (CFS) was officially established to advance physiology research and education.

2024 — Laboratory Foundation

The Laboratory of Molecular and Behavioral Neuroscience was founded by Professors Mauricio Peña Cunha and collaborators at UFSC.

Mission

We are motivated by the conviction that bridging mechanistic insights across behavioral, molecular, and cellular levels is critical to translating basic discoveries into innovative therapeutic strategies capable of preventing and modifying the course of psychiatric and neurological diseases.

Scientific Values

The Laboratory of Molecular and Behavioural Neuroscience aims to be a space for the democratization of scientific and technological knowledge in Neuroscience, developing genuine scientific research at the forefront of knowledge. These investigations will be aligned with regional and national demands, as well as generating human working relationships based on ethics and scientific integrity.

Aims

Our work is centered on unraveling the molecular and cellular mechanisms that govern behavioral dysfunction in psychiatric and neurological disorders. Through a translational framework, we aim to convert these insights into innovative therapeutic approaches and biomarker discovery, particularly in the context of chronic stress-related disorders.
